SmartDelay is Jetpac's free lounge perk: register your flight in the Jetpac Global app at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure, and if the airline reports a delay of 1 hour or more, Jetpac emails you a LoungeKey voucher for an airport lounge, for you and up to 1 companion. You can register up to 2 flights per data pack. It's different from Jetpac's paid Lounge Access passes, which you buy in advance and can use without a delay.
Key takeaways
- Deadline: no later than 24 hours before scheduled departure. Jetpac recommends registering at least 48 hours ahead.
- Trigger: a delay of 1 hour or more, as reported by the airline to FlightStats. Airport screens don't count.
- Limits: 2 flights per data pack, 1 companion, and each leg of a connecting trip needs its own registration.
- Don't count on it for cancellations: Jetpac's help centre says flights cancelled or moved to the next day are left to the airline.

SmartDelay comes free with Jetpac data packs: buy a pack for your destination, then register your flight in the Jetpac Global app.
Buy the eSIM for the data, not the lounge pass: a voucher only comes if the airline reports a qualifying delay. Your phone must be eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, Jetpac eSIMs are data-only (no regular SMS), and an installed eSIM is only refundable for technical faults.
How to register a flight for SmartDelay
- Buy a Jetpac data pack for your trip. Each pack lets you register up to 2 flights.
- Open the Jetpac Global app and register the flight with the SmartDelay service. Jetpac says you can register as soon as the flight is scheduled, typically up to 364 days ahead.
- Use the same name format as your booking. The name on the voucher is checked against your boarding pass at the lounge, and a mismatch means no entry.
- Add your companion (up to 1) at the same time, with their name as booked.
- Register each flight separately if your journey has connections.
- Look for the confirmation email saying your flight is being tracked. Keep it.
The app shows flight times in UTC, so they may not match your local departure time. Jetpac says that's fine as long as the departure code is right.
24 hours or 2 hours? Register early
Jetpac's pages word the deadline differently. Its help article on when to register gives a final deadline of 24 hours before the scheduled departure and recommends registering at least 48 hours ahead; its "How does SmartDelay work?" article says at least 24 hours; and a couple of older articles only say "before your flight departure time". Some older copies of Jetpac's FAQ mentioned a 2-hour window, but we found no current Jetpac page that allows registration that late (checked October 19, 2026). The safe approach: register when you book, or at least 48 hours before you fly.
What counts as a delay
- 1 hour or more. Jetpac's articles describe the threshold as a delay of 1 hour or more (one says more than 60 minutes).
- Reported to FlightStats. Delays come from the gate-delay data airlines and airports send to FlightStats, Jetpac's flight-data provider. Several smaller announcements can add up to the threshold.
- Not every flight can be registered. If an airline or airport doesn't report data regularly, the app won't accept the flight.
- Cancellations are a grey area. Jetpac's homepage FAQ mentions lounge access for "a flight delay or cancellation", but its help centre says flights that are cancelled or rescheduled to the next day aren't treated as delays and are handled by the airline's own process. Don't plan around a voucher if your flight is cancelled.
A long delay may also give you a right to meals or compensation from the airline itself. On flights covered by EU or UK rules, see EU261 compensation amounts; those rights are separate from SmartDelay.
Getting into the lounge
When a qualifying delay is reported, Jetpac emails you a PDF voucher for each registered passenger, each with its own QR code (its help centre also mentions SMS). Show the QR code at a participating LoungeKey lounge at the airport where you're delayed; you may also be asked for your boarding pass and passport. Jetpac says LoungeKey covers more than 1,100 lounges. You can forward your companion's voucher so they can go in without you.
You can still be turned away if the lounge is closed or full (try another lounge), if a guest doesn't meet the lounge's own rules such as minimum age or dress code, or if the name on the boarding pass doesn't match the voucher (no alternative is offered in that case). Children's access depends on each lounge. If a voucher doesn't arrive or doesn't work, Jetpac directs you to the SmartDelay 24/7 hotline, run by Collinson: 0203 725 1601 (a UK number) or [email protected].
SmartDelay vs Jetpac's paid Lounge Access
| SmartDelay (free) | Lounge Access (paid) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Included with a data pack | Bought separately on the website or in the app |
| When you can use it | Only if a registered flight is delayed 1 hour or more | Whenever you choose, at the lounge you bought it for |
| Network | LoungeKey (1,100+ lounges) | DragonPass (1,300+ lounges) |
| Validity | The delayed flight | Redemption code valid 9 months from purchase |
| Refunds | Not applicable | No refunds after purchase, except if the lounge you bought isn't on DragonPass's list when you redeem |
Paid passes are redeemed on the DragonPass website with the code Jetpac emails you, and DragonPass's terms apply. Jetpac also sells a Jetpro subscription that bundles monthly global data with lounge passes; check the current price and renewal terms in the app before subscribing.
Is SmartDelay a reason to choose Jetpac?
It's a nice extra, not a reason on its own. Pick an eSIM on coverage, price per GB and refund rules first; our review is Jetpac eSIM legit? covers those, and how to set up a travel eSIM walks through installation. If two providers cost about the same for your trip, a free lounge pass for delays is a fair tie-breaker.

Frequently asked questions
How far in advance do I need to register for Jetpac SmartDelay?
Jetpac's help centre gives a final deadline of 24 hours before the scheduled departure and recommends at least 48 hours. You can register as soon as the flight is scheduled, typically up to 364 days ahead.
How long does my flight need to be delayed for a Jetpac lounge pass?
1 hour or more, as reported by the airline to FlightStats. If the airline doesn't report the delay, no voucher is issued, even if the airport screens show one.
Can I bring someone into the lounge with SmartDelay?
Yes, 1 companion, if you add them when you register the flight. Each registered passenger gets their own voucher, and names must match the boarding passes.
Does SmartDelay work if my flight is cancelled?
Don't count on it. Jetpac's homepage mentions cancellations, but its help centre says flights that are cancelled or rescheduled to the next day aren't treated as delays and are handled by the airline. Claim your rights from the airline instead.
